Welcome to the Dahlia Society of Georgia

We are located in the great city of Atlanta with members in the city, surrounding suburbs, other areas of Georgia, and other states.

Please browse through our pages. Look at the pictures of beautiful dahlias on our originations page. If you would like to learn how to grow beautiful dahlias in the South, check out our membership page. Also, visit our Dahlias That Grow Well in the South page for a listing of heat tolerant dahlias and a growing guide for southern dahlia gardens.

We have one tuber sale in the Spring, Visit the calendar page to see when it will take place and come join us to purchase quality tubers that will take the heat in the South.

Monthly meetings are held in the Turner Theater in the Garden Entrance Building. Time and location of our Spring Tuber Sale can be found on the Calendar page and are listed in the newsletter. Scheduled meetings will be held on the third Saturday of that month at 11:00am unless otherwise noted. Please check the Calendar page for scheduled meetings. While the ABG is closed on Mondays each week, it is open on the third Monday of each month for the Dahlia Society meeting. About Us

All new or inexperienced members desiring help in growing their dahlias may have a mentor appointed for their first year of membership, or longer if requested. Please email John Kreiner, or call 770-447-1405 to coordinate this help.

The Dahlia Society of Georgia was organized on May 14, 1934 and has been meeting continuously since that time.

The purpose of the Society is to stimulate interest in Dahlias; to encourage the novice and amateur; and to assist the grower in keeping a high standard in varieties that are best suited to this locality.

We fulfill this purpose by having scheduled meetings that provide culture information to our members. We also have a quarterly newsletter that keeps our members up to date on happenings within the Society and with some of those “trade secrets” for growing dahlias in the heat. We have a tuber sale each Spring so members and non-members alike have access to quality tubers at affordable prices. These tubers will grow well in the heat of the Atlanta area and most can be purchased at much lower prices than those sold commercially. The sales are held at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Visit the calendar page for more information.

We have had an annual show in past years but starting in 2019 we will only have an annual show every two out of three years. We will not have annual show in atlanta during 2019 but will have one the following two years. Our shows are held at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.

We have an annual picnic at one of our member homes or a garden location which is always one of the highlights of the year. We are affiliated with the Southern States Dahlia Conference and the American Dahlia Society
