About us…
The Dahlia
Society of Georgia was organized on May 14, 1934 and has been meeting
continuously since that time.
The
purpose of the Society is to stimulate interest in Dahlias; to encourage
the novice and amateur; and to assist the grower in keeping a high standard
in varieties that are best suited to this locality.
We
fulfill this purpose by having monthly meetings that provide culture
information to our members. We also have a monthly newsletter that keeps
our members up to date on happenings within the Society and with some
of those “trade secrets” for growing dahlias in the heat. We have two
tuber sales each Spring so members and non-members alike have access
to quality tubers at affordable prices. These tubers will grow well
in the heat of the Atlanta area and can be purchased at much lower prices
than those sold commercially. The sales are held at the Atlanta Botanical
Garden.
We also
have an annual mini show at our October meeting which is geared to the
novice grower and those that don't exhibit their dahlias in the annual
show. The purpose of this show is to allow these growers the opportunity
to display their blooms in an environment without the competition and
pressure of the annual show.
We
have an annual picnic at one of our member homes which is always one
of the highlights of the year.
We
are affiliated with the Southern States Dahlia Society and the American
Dahlia Society.
