The Dahlia Society of Georgia was organized on May 14, 1934 and has been meeting continuously since that time.
The purpose of the Society is to stimulate interest in Dahlias; to encourage the novice and amateur; and to assist the grower in keeping a high standard in varieties that are best suited to this locality.
We fulfill this purpose by having scheduled meetings that provide culture information to our members. We also have a quarterly newsletter that keeps our members up to date on happenings within the Society and with some of those “trade secrets” for growing dahlias in the heat. We have a tuber sale each Spring so members and non-members alike have access to quality tubers at affordable prices. These tubers will grow well in the heat of the Atlanta area and most can be purchased at much lower prices than those sold commercially. The sales are held at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Visit the calendar page for more information.
We have had an annual show in past years but starting in 2019 we will only have an annual show every two out of three years. We will not have annual show in atlanta during 2019 but will have one the following two years. Our shows are held at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
We have an annual picnic at one of our member homes or a garden location which is always one of the highlights of the year. We are affiliated with the Southern States Dahlia Conference and the American Dahlia Society
As a member of the Dahlia Society of Georgia you will receive:
You will also be mentored for the first year (if requested) by an experienced grower, which can be very valuable in learning how best to grow your Dahlias in the South.
